Composer by M. Pettet
---------------------
Composer is a user friendly music utility using mouse and keyboard.
Features include canon writing, ornaments (ie trills and turns), ties,
dynamics, memory crunching and filtering. Instructions are included in the
program by pressing the HELP key or by selecting Help from the menu bar.
Exit the help page by pressing Q.
The general idea is to select notes from the lower panel by clicking on
them and pasting them onto the manuscript above by clicking on the staves.
For optimum speed, the manuscript must be compiled (by pressing [/]) before
it is played (by pressing SPACE).
< Quick tutorial >
Press ENTER and a file selector will appear. Find the music directory and
load Pavane. Type Y or press the left mouse button when asked "Are you
sure?" Press [/] to compile the piece then press SPACE to play it. Press
left mouse button to stop. Type 1 from the numerical keyboard and change the
voice name by sliding up and down the bar or pressing the up and down arrow
keys for fine adjustmewnt. Press SPACE to exit. Press numerical keys 2,3
and 4 to change the other voices. Play the piece again.
Press ENTER and load Preludev1 and play it in the same way as above. Select
Define own tempo from the menu and type 400. Compile again and play again.
Load London. Position the cursor for the top voice by clicking above the
second open repeat bar and press M then W as the title suggests. Compile
and play the piece.
This tutorial gives a brief insight to the features of the program. Now
compose your own pieces. Loading Mix.set from the voices folder will give
you a good set of voices to choose from.
Known bugs
Quit forces an error so that the Workbench is returned.
The Composer program also has a number of modules attached to it which
couldn't be included because of lack of disk space (about 3 Mb in fact!). If
you send me a fiver, I'll send the rest to you, (NB you must have AMOS to run
some of the programs).
